5 Reasons to Buy the 2016 BMW M2 [Price, Release Date & Specs]
- comments
Shortly after its debut at the North American International Auto Show 2016, car experts were convinced that the 2016 BMW M2 is going to be an instant hit after testing out the 7-speed DCT and the six-speed variants both on the track and on the road.
"As the newest addition to the M lineup, the M2 embodies four decades of high-performance engineering and pushes the limits even further -- delivering a perfected formula of chassis balance, steering response, and power-to-weight ratio. In short, it's everything that makes BMW the Ultimate Driving Machine," says BMW.
High-Performance Engineering
The BMW M2 comes available in both the manual and automatic gearbox. The under-the-hood specs include the six-cylinder turbocharged 3.0-liter engine capable of delivering 365 horsepower and 343 lb-ft of torque, up to 369 lb-ft with Overboost.
BMW also claims that the M2 can go from zero to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds with the 7-speed DCT while the six-speed manual can have the same acceleration at 0.2 seconds slower.
Impressive Real World Performance And Handling
When taken for a road test and some real hard driving, the BMW M2 is up for the challenge.
"It's not too often when a car gives you so much confidence to take big, swooping turns on unfamiliar routes at 90+ mph, but the M2 spoke to us confidently through sticky tires, superb handling, and braking with a sense of urgency that never left us holding on for dear life."
Worry-Free Drive
With the help of the electronically controlled Active M Differential on the rear axle, optimum power is applied during cornering in order to prevent excessive restraint. The M2 is engineered to have superb traction, and minimal body roll and understeer.
The car is equipped with 245/35R-19 and 265/35R-19 summer tires for the front and rear, respectively, courtesy of Michelin Pilot Super Sports.
It's a 4-Seater Coupe
While most coupes are designed for two passengers, the BMW M2 is perfect for those who want a coupe and want to carry additional riders at the same time. This 4-seater car is ideal for those who have just started a family or those who like to take their kids for a ride. The back seat is spacious enough to accommodate bigger passengers.
Fun to Drive
Under normal circumstances, the BMW M2 is enjoyable to drive with a more precise and responsive front combined with a more stable rear end. For a turbocharged BMW vehicle, the M2, surprisingly, displayed a more "progressive throttle-steerability," while the singular, twin-scroll turbocharger positioned directly to the cylinder head, delivers power more smoothly.
As for the release date and pricing, the latest installment in the M-series is now available and comes at a starting price of $51,700, which excludes the destination & handling fee of $995, tax, title, license and registration.
