TreeHouse Foods Announces 'Voluntary Product Recall' Due to Possible Health Risk

Packaged foods maker, TreeHouse Foods, Inc. yesterday December 11, 2016 announced a voluntary recall of certain macaroni and cheese cup products that contain cheddar cheese seasoning that may be contaminated with Salmonella.
TreeHouse said the recall was issued following a notification from its supplier that the milk powder used in seasoning the product has the potential for Salmonella contamination.
TreeHouse Foods, Inc. is a manufacturer of beverages and packaged food. It has more than 50 manufacturing facilities across the United States, Italy and Canada that focus primarily on private label products for both food away from home customers and retail grocery.
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. Most individuals recover shortly after contamination without treatment, while in some other cases, diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized.
The old, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates about 1.2 million illnesses and about 450 deaths occurrence of non-typhoidal salmonella annually in America, according to Reuters.
Treehouse press release states that, the products were distributed nationwide through retail stores. The following products are affected by the recall: Big Win Original Macaroni and Cheese Dinner, 001182258403 (UPC) with the following 'best by dates': 10/25/2017, 11/3/2017, 11/4/2017, 11/18/2017, 11/22/201, 10/20/2017, 10/21/2017, 10/23/2017, and 10/29/2017.
Cheese Club Express Mac Macaroni and Cheese Dinner, 004149817167 (UPC) which has the following: 'best by' dates: 11/1/2017, 11/2/2017, 11/11/2017, 11/16/2017, 11/17/2017, 11/22/2017, 11/23/2017, 11/28/2017, 10/22/2017, 10/19/2017, 10/27/2017, 10/28/2017.
Lastly, Great Value Macaroni and Cheese Original Cups, 007874208249 (UPC), that have the following 'best by' dates: 11/3/2017, 11/7/2017, 11/18/2017, 11/20/2017, 11/21/2017. No illnesses have been reported till date. Pictures of the products are attached to the press release.
