Apple is taking steps to protect the name "AirPods," based on recent trademark filings in several different countries. While Apple itself is not directly linked to these applications, the pattern of filings is consistent with Apple's usual strategy.
A company called Entertainment in Flight, LLC, a Delaware firm housed at the Corporation Trust Center, applied to trademark "AirPods" in the United States on September 22.
According to Macrumor, this is a strategy Apple has used a number of times in the past to hide its trademark work. The company was created in early September and appears to have no visible operations other than the trademark filing.
Apple states that AirPods will change the way headphones are used. Whenever the airpods are pulled out of the charging case, they will instantly turn on and connect to the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac.
The AirPods automatically plays audio when they are in one's ears and pauses when taken out. a user only needs to double-tap to activate Siri in order to adjust volume, change audio, make call, or get directions,
Driven by the custom Apple W1 chip, AirPods use optical sensors and a motion accelerometer to detect when they are in the ears. Whether both AirPods are in use or just one, the W1 chip automatically routes audio and engage microphone.
An additional accelerometer works with beamforming microphones to filter background noise and focus on the sound of your voice when taking calls or talking to Siri. AirPods deliver 5 hours of listening time on one charge as the ultralow-power W1 chip manages battery.
The charging case that multiple additional charge and delivers more than 24 hours of listening time. Just 15 minutes in the case delivers 3 hours of listening time.
For the beamforming aspect of the invention, review of the patent granted to Apple last Tuesday is necessary. The patent is entitled "Detecting the positions of earbuds and use of the positions for selecting the optimum microphones in a headset," according to Patently Apple.
Although the patent relates to Apple's wired EarPods, beamforming technology discussed in the patent also applies to Apple's AirPods.
Review Apple's second patent application 20160357510 which was filed in June 2016 to review the AirPods invention,. Apple's two patent filings for their AirPods are now patents fulfilled and completed.
