Health Warning From Victorian Authorities: Food Poisoning Leaves One Dead
- comments
When the new year celebration is knocking at the door, then reports of death from food poisoning have shattered the happiness of several persons. A recent incident has reported one person left dead and at least six persons are rushed to hospital after the rapid outbreak of food poisoning in Victoria.
Sources from Yahoo 7 News have revealed that one person has died from listeria. Though the Department of Health and Human Services is not ready to link this death to other cases.
Sources say that the origin of the food poisoning is not yet discovered, but as there is already a case of death related to listeria, so Jill Hennessy, the Victorian Health Minister, has issued a strict warning on safety measures.
On Thursday she told, "Seven cases in three weeks is a significant increase in those notifications".
Reports from Mail Online have made it clear that the food poisoning incident has forced the authorities to create and issue a list of foods that can be very risky for the people.
It is a normal fact that before the Christmas and new year celebration most of the Australian grocery shops must be equipped with several kinds of foods. So the list can be very helpful to prevent the problem.
The list of high-risk foods includes cold meats, cold chicken (cooked), raw and chilled seafood, salads, fruits, soft cheese and even ice-cream.
Even a health warning is also issued and the doctors are advised to be alert and familiar about the fatal effects of listeria.
Listeria is very fatal, especially for the babies and the elderly persons. People with low immunity power can be the victims of this problem. Even pregnant women should be very careful.
As the health authorities have not so far been able to identify the source of the infection, so the investigation is still on with all preventive measures.
Reports from the desk of the Mail Online have revealed that the authority has not yet revealed any information regarding the deceased person. The conditions of some persons who were previously admitted to the hospital are improving and the rest have left the hospital after complete cure.
Now the real fact is symptoms of listeria can be usually found around three weeks after consuming contaminated food. Though the time of interval varies. It can range 'between a few days and two months'.
Primary symptoms include fever, tiredness, headache, and pains. The worst part of this problem is it can even lead to meningitis and also septicaemia.
As a primary preventive measure, people should cook their meal at a high temperature, because listeria can't survive at a high temperature. They should wash their hands properly before cooking, and keep the food in the refrigerator immediately.
Professor Charles Guest from the Chief Health Office told Yahoo 7 News that if cooked food are left out on the barbecue "for six hours and it cools down" then there can be a high risk of "bacterial proliferation".
Sometimes listeria can't be distinguished from other different forms of food poisoning, so whenever problems arise the best part is to avail the treatment by antibiotics.
