'Super Mario Bros' the movie's 2nd blue ray release - limited edition 'Steelbook'

Super Mario Bros the movie, based on the hit video game of the same name, is scheduled to release for its second-time blu-ray release.  It is available for pre-order exclusively on Zavvi.com and will be released on February 13th 2017 as the site states.

The movie released in 1993 and was received poorly by the audiences. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a rating of only 15%. It is a shock that a movie that did so poorly should have a limited edition 'Steelbook' blu-ray release priced at £15.99.  But the hype may be justified by the fandom that the franchise possesses.

Super Mario Bros the game released in 1985. IGN named it 'the greatest game of all time in a 2005 poll and the game is also credited with rescuing the American video game market from the crash of 1980. In 3 decades, the game has touched many hearts and entertained many generations. It is perhaps because of the nostalgia associated with the franchise that a flop movie is being revived in a limited edition steel case.

The Super Mario Bros limited edition Steelbook contains the following (Zavvi.com ):

1.     The movie supplemented with special English subtitles for the hard of hearing

2.     The Making of the movie

3.     Behind the scenes and storyboard galleries

4.     An original electronic press-kit

5.     A 60 minute documentary containing new interviews of the cast and crew.

Having such a great legacy behind it, the movie is bound to succeed as a limited edition blu-ray. Some of the fans might give in to the fact that the movie wasn't good. But the nostalgia connected with the franchise will still be a selling point of any Mario merchandise. The pre-orders will possibly be filled quickly as die-hard fans rush to add one more item to their Super Mario Bros collection.
