Tesla Motors Reveal Latest Pricing Set Up For Its Supercharging Stations; Here’s What To Know
- comments
Tesla Motors has recently announced that it would start charging the customers for using the supercharging stations. However, customers who have exceeded the annual limit would only be charged. The company has also set forth its latest pricing structure to help the customers pay the charging price across all its charging stations.
According to Bloomberg, this latest move that was announced on Thursday is one the first movements to monetize a service that all most all its electric car owners have enjoyed so far. Also, this move is a step towards preparing itself to launch its new Model 3 sedan this year. The Elon Musk led company, has stressed that this company is only trying to recover a part of the cost and to set up a fair system for all its customers. The company further added that the system wouldn't be concentrating on profit as well.
Tesla manufactured vehicles purchased after Jan 15, 2017, would receive about 1000 miles or 400 kilowatt hour of free supercharging credits every year. Interestingly, the car owners would receive this offer or scheme every year on the anniversary of their car delivery. As the company mentioned in a blog, "If customers travel beyond their annual credit, they will be charged a small fee to Supercharge. "In North America, pricing is fixed within each state or province; overseas, pricing is fixed within each country."
Usually, Tesla has about 795 Supercharging stations across the globe. As per Yahoo News, the users won't be able to roll over the unused credits next year. The credits have been fixed at 400 kWh per year. If the owner transfers the car, the credits get reset on the transfer date.
The Supercharing fee, as Tesla said, would be around $15 for a road journey from San Francisco to Los Angeles, for a cross country trip the fee has been fixed at $ 120, for a trip from Paris to Rome the fee has been fixed at 60 Euros, etc. These Supercharging stations, located in the malls or in-between major highways reduce the anxiety of travelers to run out of car power.
