A man’s best friend’s loyalty was displayed when his owner nearly knocked on death’s door as he fell in the snow which paralyzed him. The man was lucky enough that his Golden Retriever, Kelsey stayed with him throughout the 20 hours that he was stuck in the snow and kept him warm.
Today reported that the man identified as Bob decided to get some firewood outside their home in Michigan last New Year’s Eve at 10:30 p.m. It was then when he unexpectedly slip and fell in the snow. The 64-year old man who preferred not to include his surname stated that he couldn’t move anything but just his elbows when he landed on his back. He also said that he screamed the entire time that he was conscious but unfortunately his neighbor’s houses were a quarter mile away.
Despite the tragic event, Bob still had luck because Kelsey was with him. The dog stayed on top of him and licked his body to keep him warm while they were battling the cold breeze. Bob also stated that his Golden Retriever kept barking despite him being unconscious.
On top of that, Bob and Kelsey were both very fortunate the next New Year’s day when their neighbor who came to pick eggs from Bob found them later at 6:30 in the evening. As a result of the drastic event, Bob was taken to McLaren Northern Michigan hospital for his hypothermia and irregular heart rhythm. He was also reported to have undergone a surgery where his paralysis from two damaged herniated discs was treated.
Bob's daughter, Jenny also spoke about Kelsey's bravery for saving her father. She said that "It was like, she knew that he had to stay awake because if he fell asleep he wouldn't wake up again."
More so, according to WKRN, the doctor in charge of Bob, Dr. Chaim Colen mentioned that Bob wouldn’t be less likely alive if it weren’t for Kelsey. He also stated that despite the 24 degrees cold that night, Bob didn’t accumulate any frostbite because of his dog keeping him warm.
Amid the event, Bob is now recovering fast in a rehabilitation center where he was transferred and is also able to move his arms and legs already. Of course his loyal dog, Kelsey is still beside him ever since.
