Nintendo NES Classic Edition Update: Fil-Aime Hints Re-stocking of NES Classic; Allays Fear of Nintendo Switch Supply Issues
- comments
Nintendo boss Reggie Fils-Aime hints that the company will soon be re-stocking the Nintendo NES Classic Edition. Fil-Aime also ensures that there will be no supply issues concerning the Nintendo Switch, allaying fears that the Switch might suffer the same supply problems that plagued the retro gaming device.
In an interview with Wired, Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo America, admitted that the "incremental demand" surprised the company. While the company knew the popularity of the the classic games, they didn't account for how popular the NES Classic Edition would become since their target consumers are the people who used to play the classic games and who had "stepped away from gaming for some period."
The Nintendo NES Classic Edition has become so widely popular that retail stores, online or otherwise, have routinely reported that the NES Classic Edition were out-of-stock. Fil-Aime reveals that the reason for this was that the global demand for the NES Classic was "well in excess of anything" they had anticipated.
That said, Fil-Aime assures the consumers in the Americas that the company is doing its best to ensure that the NES Classic will still be available and that the consumer demand is going to be met. However, this shortage on the Nintendo NES Classic Edition puts in question the capability of Nintendo to answer the consumer demand with respect to the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch.
According to Fil-Aime, Nintendo is producing two million Nintendo Switch consoles in the first month to make sure that the latest gaming device from Nintendo will be available to the public. Fil-Aime also said during the interview that their focus is making sure that the consumer wanting to purchase the "Nintendo Switch can buy a Nintendo Switch."
That said, the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch might be the reason why the Nintendo NES Classic Edition has not been re-stocked to the frustration of the NES Classic fans. The good news however is that Fil-Aime himself said he is aware of the current situation since he "read the boards and the comments" concerning the supply issues. "The ongoing demand is going to be met," Fil-Aime ensures the Nintendo NES Classic Edition fans.
