Study Claims Mindfulness Meditation in Beneficial to Human Body

Due to the fast pacing of life, a number of people go through a couple of stress that harms our wellbeing. Some engages in meditation to deal with the pressure while some takes on stress management techniques. With this matter, a new study had confirmed that mindfulness (a form of meditation) can in fact reduce stress level more than the stress management techniques.

Mindfulness is the new form of meditation which permits an individual to focus on what is currently happening instead of worrying about the future or regretting on the past. This statement is supported by the Buddhist philosophy that was reported in Daily Mail. To add with, the researchers had claimed that an eight week course of mindfulness, light stretching and slow breathing can lower the stress hormones more than the stress management practice. Hollywood stars had been an advocate of this type of meditation. One of these is Emma Watson and Angelina Jolie.

According to Telegraph, 89 participants in the study were divided randomly into two groups. The experimental group had received the eight week course of mindfulness. This group had a two and a half hour session wherein they had focused on their breathing, then on different parts of their body, and then on Hatha yoga stretching exercises. After the session, this group was also advised to take their meals mindfully by focusing on every bite they take. On the other hand, the other half had received the traditional stress management course. This group was advised on how to use their time wisely and focus on nutrition and sleep over eight weeks.

As a result, the researchers found out that the group who were treated with mindfulness meditation was more resilient that the other half who had the traditional stress management technique. In addition, the group who meditated had also a lower level of inflammatory reaction to stress which usually develops type 2 diabetes.
