‘Oscars 2017’ Latest News & Update: Complete List of Nominees For ‘Best Motion Pictures’, Preview Included

The 2017 Oscar nominations are here and every single film that got to the top are worthy of winning in its own way. However, there is only one winner to be announced. Quite a number lucky films that released last year got to the top of the worl'ds most prestigious award show. Even films from the black community have reached the top this year. Here are the Best Motion Picture nominations and a small preview of them. 

"Lion"

''Lion'' is a film that revolves around the of a child who gets lost in the city of Calcutta at the age of five. Being far away from home, he manages to survive many difficult situations before a couple from Australia adopts him. After 25 years, he embarks on an impossible task of locating his real family.

There are other nominations for the film:

Dev Patel became the nominee for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Nicole Kidman gets nominated Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, Luke Davies gets one for Best Adapted Screenplay, Greig Fraser for Best Achievement in Cinematography. A shared nomination for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score) for Dustin O'Halloran and Volker Bertelmann. 


"Fences"

This is a story of an African-American father who tries to bring his family up in the 1950s while grappling with the occasions of his life he additionally battles with race relations in the United States.

The film also has three other nominations. Denzel Washington got the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role nomination while Viola Davis was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role award. A Best Adapted Screenplay nomination is also there for August Wilson.


"Hidden Figures"

This is the true story of the splendid African-American woman named Katherine G. Johnson. She works at NASA and filled in as the mathematical brain behind sending astronaut John Glenn into space. Who later went on to become the first American to orbit the Earth.

Other nominations the film has achieved are:

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for Octavia Spencer and a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination shred by  Allison Schroeder and Theodore Melfi. 


"Hell or High Water"

A story of a separated father and his ex-con sibling resorting to an urgent plan, keeping in mind it is the only way to save their family's farm in West Texas, The resulting actions drive an honest and foul-mouthed Texas Ranger to take it as his last big case. A showdown cooks up at the crossroads when the brothers go for their final robbery.

"Hell or High Water" is also nominated for:

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for Jeff Bridges while Taylor Sheridan was nominated for Best Original Screenplay nomination. The final nomination is for Jake Roberts in Best Achievement in Film Editing.  


"Manchester by the Sea"

A story of an uncle who is solicited to become the guardian of his young nephew after the kid's father passes away.

Other nominations for the movie are Casey Affleck for  Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Lucas Hedges for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, Michelle Williams for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, Kenneth Lonergan for Best Achievement in Directing and Best Original Screenplay.


"Arrival"

This is a science fiction story where twelve mysterious spacecraft arrives on earth and a linguistics professor named Louise Banks is charged with translating the dialect of the evident outside guests.

There are seven other nominations for the film. A Best Achievement in Directing nomination for Denis Villeneuve, a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination forEric Heisserer, a Best Achievement in Cinematography nomination forBradford Young, a Best Achievement in Film Editing nomination forJoe Walker, a Best Achievement in Production Design nomination for Patrice Vermette and Paul Hotte, a Best Achievement in Sound Mixing nomination for Bernard Gariépy Strobl and Claude La Haye. The final nomination is for Best Achievement in Sound Editingnomination for Sylvain Bellemare. 


"Hacksaw Ridge"

The tale of a WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who declines to murder in war. In any case, turns into the first man in American history to get the Medal of Honor without discharging a shot.

The film has achieved more nominations. Andrew Garfield got a  nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role while Mel Gibson gets one for Best Achievement in Directing. John Gilbert gets one for Best Achievement in Film Editing. Kevin O'Connell, Andy Wright, Robert Mackenzie and Peter Grace shares the nomination for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing. Best Achievement in Sound Editing for Robert Mackenzie and Andy Wright.


"Moonlight"

An ageless story of self-revelation and connection, Moonlight annals the life of a youthful man from adolescence to adulthood as he battles to discover his place on the planet while experiencing childhood in a harsh neighborhood of Miami.

The other nominations the film has achieved are: Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for Mahershala Ali, 
Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for Naomie Harris, Best Achievement in Directing for Barry Jenkins, Best Adapted Screenplay for Barry Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney, Best Achievement in Cinematography for James Laxton, Best Achievement in Film Editing for Joi McMillon and Nat Sanders and Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score) for Nicholas Britell.

 
"La La Land"

The is a story of two artists Sebastian and Mia. They are drawn together by their regular longing to do what they cherish. However, as achievement mounts they are confronted with choices that start to shred their relationship and the dreams they worked so difficult to keep up in each other start to rip them apart.

According to The Guardian "LA LA Land" has eualed the world record for most Oscar nominations with a total of 14 Oscar nominations. The other nominations the film achieved are listed below due to its length:

Last year's the Oscars were filled with controversy regarding no nominations from the Black community. As per reports form New York Times this year the Academy is delighting the Black community with well deserved Nominations for actors and films. 

The 2017 Academy Awards aka The Oscars is scheduled to happen on February 26th, It will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. May the best picture win.
