Miss Universe 2016 Moments: Steve Harvey Makes Peace With Miss Colombia But Not Without Getting Lambasted First
- comments
It's been a year since Steve Harvey made a huge mistake announcing the wrong winner in Miss Universe, and he's already made amends and even cracked jokes about it with this year's Miss Colombia, Andrea Tovar.
But that didn't mean Harvey got off lightly. After he announced the names of the Top 6 finalists, he had a one-on-one with Miss Colombia 2016 and asked her how the Colombians really feel about him. Tovar asked him if he really wanted to hear the truth. Harvey immediately joked that she should lie to him instead.
Miss Colombia did not mince her words and told him "A lot of people hate you," and elicited laughter from the crowd. This was followed up quickly by Tovar with "But I love you." She then proceeded to answer her question in Spanish. Harvey quipped if that was meant as a death threat, USA Today reported.
Despite the blunt response, Miss Colombia gave a hug to Harvey after she was called during the dress rehearsals for the 65th edition of Miss Universe in the Mall of Asia Arena. "Steve, no more mistakes," Tovar joked with him after they break the embrace.
Harvey made fun of the incident at his own expense throughout the pageant, such as admitting that every time he reads a card, he puckers up a little bit. Former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach also ribbed on him gently and thanked him for making her the most popular Miss Universe. Harvey responded that he wanted to thank her as well for making him the most popular host of Miss Universe, according to Entertainment Online.
The jokes didn't stop there and at one point, an Ernst and Young accountant warned Harvey onstage not to make the same mistake again or else he might not be able to leave. And before Harvey announced the winner of Miss Universe, Wurtzbach gave him a huge pair of reading glasses. Harvey took it all in stride and said "Thank you, Pia. A year late, but thank you."
