Medical treatment changes the definition of survivability when a baby girl sees the daylight much before her due date. With only 13 ounces she discovers a new life.
Mail Online reported that mom Entitan from Chicago, Illinois, delivered a baby girl four months before her due date. Entitan developed pre-eclampsia while she was pregnant. It is a pregnancy complication with high blood pressure and the extreme probability of the failure of the important organs like kidneys.
Her doctors told her that she had to deliver her baby girl earlier. She was told that 30th week is the maximum time period that means 10 weeks before the full gestation. But, she got only 23 weeks.
After the birth of the baby girl, doctors told her mother that the child was on the brink of survivability. The baby had only 17 percent chance to survive the first night. Doctors shifted the baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and after more than four months she gets the opportunity to go home.
Eirianna Martins is the name of that baby girl. Abc7NY reported that Eirianna is the smallest patient who has survived at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago. Doctors took extreme precautions and kept the baby from any kind of extreme minor injury.
Doctors even didn't permit the parents of the baby girl to touch their newborn child. Eirianna Martins spent 140 days in the Mount Sinai Hospital before she headed to her own home. Mother Entitan now feed her daughter with a bottle.
For the mother of the baby girl, the whole incident is a miracle. Recent data reveal the tendency of increasing number of the premature infants. 4,500 babies between 23 and 37 weeks gestation were born between 2000 and 2011.
The key fact is premature infants develop neuro problems in the later period of life. But, apart from this fact, the best part of this incident is it reveals the benefits of steroids that can save women from risky pregnancies. In this case, the baby girl is fortunate enough that her mother got the opportunity.
