Health News: Peanut Butter Substitute Recalled After E. Coli Outbreak

A peanut butter substitute that is sold by an Illinois-based company has been called off. There have been 12 cases of E. coli been linked to the product. Due to this reason, thGlenview-based I.M. Health SoyNut Butter Co has voluntarily recalled the soya based products.
Now, the E. coli cases in Arizona, New Jersey, Oregon, California, and Maryland have all been linked to the nut based product, including peanut butter. According to Illinois Public Health director Dr. Nirav Shah, some E.coli infections are mild while some others might be harmful. Young children are most vulnerable to the virus compared to the adults.
As per Fox News, the health officials have warned all people not to consume any I.M. Health brand product irrespective of its size. These include SoyNut Butter products or granola coated SoyNut Butter.
Till now 6 people have been hospitalized with the E.coli infection. All of them are under 18 years old. The peanut butter substitute which the company had recalled has a Best Buy date of August 30, 2018. All the customers have been urged to dispose off the butter jar if they belong to the batch. The customers are also urged to dispose the peanut butter jar after sealing them off tightly.
According to ABC News, four hospitalized patients have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, which is a type of kidney failure, after consuming the contaminated peanut butter. This can either be life threatening or people might recover within a week.
CDC has also mentioned that in the coming weeks, the outbreak might increase as there would be a rise in E.coli cases. The company has also issued a notice "Consumers who have purchased I.M. Healthy Original Creamy SoyNut Butter should not consume the product. The recall does not affect any other I.M. Healthy products except for the I.M.
