With the number of homes that are getting an iPad increase by the year, more and more kids are also getting hooked to it to the point that they develop a severe case of iPad addiction.
According to Live Science, various psychologists are discovering that the cravings experienced by hard drug addicts are the same with kids who are iPad addicts. The site shared several symptoms to help you idenitfy if your child is suffering from the same behavior.
Withdrawal symptoms include being extra irritable or severely depressed when the gadget is prohibited from them. Their tolerance level also gets higher that if they only enjoy it for as short as ten minutes, they suddenly demand for more time to play the next time around. Another sign is when they lose interest on their usual activities and they early on lose their self control that they throw tantrums when they are not able to get their iPad.
For most of these symptoms, it can still be recognized as normal for kids to be a bit obsessive on something new that earned much of their attention. However, just like in adults, if it gets in the way of living a balanced life, then it is the parents' responsibility to put a stop or a limit to it.
The youngest iPad addict recognized is a 4-year-old Brit. According to Daily Mail UK, the girl has been addicted to the gadget since she was three and was playing with it up to almost four hours each day. The child's psychiatrist, Dr Richard Graham said that it was a good step for the parents to get help early on, for if not, it could go as worse as having to put the child in rehab.
'Digital Detox Programme' is how his therapy session is called for patients who are addicted to modern devices of today. The fee is about £16,000 a month.
He added that if your kids get extremely angry each time the device is taken from them and they prefer communicating through the gadgets rather than have some quality talk time with you, then it is a must to pay some attention to your child's possible iPad addiction as soon as possible.
