The FDA is urging the consumers to thoroughly inspect and throw away any of the Blue Bell products listed above.
If any of the consumers have come in contact or suspect contact with the contaminated dessert, the following steps should be followed according to the FDA:
For refrigerators, food preparations sites, and kitchen utensils that may have been used to handle or prepare the potentially contaminated product:
- Thoroughly wash said surfaces such as fridge shelves, counter tops, knives, and cutting boards. Sanitize with a solution of one tablespoon of bleach mixed with one hot gallon of water. Dry with clean towel.
For consumers:
- Wipe up any spills or remnants from the potentially contaminated product or freezer where it was previously stored
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
For institutions and retailers:
According to the FDA, any institution or retailer should not sell or serve the products listed above. Immediately dispose the potentially tainted products and take the following steps:
- Clean and sanitize freezers and display cases where products were stored
- Clean and sanitize surfaces and utensils where the products could have come in contact with to avoid cross contamination
