With all the buzz surrounding the third installment of the "Captain America" franchise, new reports have shed more light regarding the characters we can expect in the upcoming film.
According to an article published by The Hollywood Reporter, Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Director Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies (MCU), his character will not be appearing in "The Winter Soldier" sequel, "Captain America: Civil War."
"I'm not in Captain America 3," revealed the actor to Collider (via THR). "I can't figure that out, but I'm not. I guess I'm still out there, trying to figure out what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. and who these other people are."
The publication noted that it's a peculiar move given Jackson was seen in the new Avengers compound towards the end of the blockbuster hit, "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Additionally, "Civil War" has to do with government regulation which many believe will involve S.H.I.E.L.D.
However, THR does analyze that with the star studded cast already involved in the film, it's also possible that Marvel is holding off on involving Jackson and is fitting his character into other upcoming flicks, specifically the "Avengers: Infinity War" films. As it stands, there's only two films left in the actor's contract with Marvel and per the actor, he's interested in staying on with Marvel.
"I'm looking for a contract extension right now, yeah," admitted Samuel to Collier back in February. "I'm looking to re-up."
The Hulk Appearance
In related news, We Got This Covered wrote that while Bruce Banner aka The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) looked like he was planning to walk away from the Avengers during "Age of Ultron," the green superhero will be making a big screen appearance.
According to both We Are Wakanda and MCU Exchange, another Hulk is heading to the big screen for the hotly anticipated threequel: Red Hulk, the monstrous alter-ego of General Thunderbolt Ross.
Sources close to the production say that Ross, who will once again be played by The Incredible Hulk actor William Hurt, will in fact Hulk-out in Civil War and engage in a brawl with Banner's Hulk that will apparently rival the Hulkbuster fight from Age of Ultron.
As the release date of "Captain America: Civil War" approaches, fans should be able to hear more. The film is expected to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
