"Thor 3: Ragnarok" star Chris Hemsworth has been cast as a receptionist in the upcoming all-female "Ghostbusters" reboot.

Director Paul Feig made the announcement over Twitter on Wednesday when he posted a photo of the Marvel superhero along with the caption, "Our receptionist. #whoyougonnacall."

The role has been completely reversed as the original character was played by Annie Potts.

Variety reported that initially, the 31-year-old star was apprehensive about playing the role because he thought it was too small. However, with Sony adamant to get the handsome Aussie signed on that the studio reportedly reworked the script and its role to beef it up for Hemsworth.

The publication furthered that as of now, the plot details of the upcoming movie have not been released but it's believed that the reboot will center on the new generation of ghost-busting characters, which happens to be an all-female crew.

E! News notes that the Hollywood A-Lister is the newest addition to the gender-reversed cast that stars a new line of lead actors that includes Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

"Those four ladies I have starring in it are so funny and that's half the battle," said the Feig during a recent interview (via Entertainment Weekly). "I'm going to battle with the best army I have. My whole crew from all my other movies have come aboard, and some great special effects people have come aboard-I have never really done this level of effects before-and I'm excited!"

Feig continued to say that while he recognizes many people aren't happy with the idea of a reboot, he admits: "But I don't know how to do it any other way, because it's been 25 years since the last one. Harold has gone, Bill doesn't want to do it, and I love Dan and Ernie, but people had written those scripts and they were fine, but it felt sweaty to me, it felt like a wheel was off the cart. I thought, 'Why don't we go into this and reinvent it so we can go into a world that doesn't have ghosts?'...I love origin stories. I want to see them come up with the tech. I want to see them seeing a ghost for the first time, as opposed to 'Oh yeah, all those years ago there was a ghost attack on New York."

Hemsworth recently starred in Joss Whedon's blockbuster hit "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and is set to appear in the road trip comedy "Vacation" which opens in theaters on June 29.

The "Ghostbusters" reboot, on the other hand, is a while away with production planned to commence soon. The set release date for the girl-power reboot is July 22, 2016.
