Hours before her scheduled concert Thursday night at Calgary Stampede, country star Miranda Lambert announced the cancellation of the show as per the advice of her doctor. This is because Lambert is suffering from a serious inflammation in her vocal chords.

Problems with the vocal cords play a very huge concern for singers. In fact, Lambert is not the only artist who had to sacrifice concerts due to vocal cord problems. Sam Smith was reported to have cancelled tour dates and undergo surgery for the same problem, E! Online reports. Even Adele and Meghan Trainor have had cancelled shows due to this problem.

The difficulty with inflammation in the vocal cords is that it would make one's voice distorted, or hoarse, because of the limited air passing over them. Sometimes, the voice becomes undetectable, depending on the swelling, Mayo Clinic notes. Most inflammation cases are due to a strain in the vocal chords or a temporary viral infection.

Fans who purchased the concert tickets are advised that their tickets can still be used as single admission for free from July 8 to July 12 in the Calgary Stampede. According to the event page, Lambert's husband, Blake Shelton, will still be performing at the Calgary Stampede on Friday night, July 10, 7:30 p.m., at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Calgary Stampede's Chief Operating Officer Paul Rosenberg is hoping that there will be a reschedule of Lambert's performance, although there are no definite promises or dates yet. Ticket holders are also advised to retain their tickets and check out Stampede's and Ticketmaster's websites for any updates of the reschedule.

Meanwhile, several fans have extended messages of support and well wishes for the country singer in response to her social media post.

Lambert has several upcoming tour dates listed on her website, including one set on July 17, at the North Dakota State Fair and another appearance at the Cheyenne Frontier Days on July 18. Depending on the severity of her vocal cord problem, it is still unknown whether the upcoming performances will also be cancelled.
