Brothers Hospitalized After Getting Second-Degree Sunburns at Day Care

The effects of the UV rays during summertime has urged health officials and skincare experts to warn the public about taking extra precautions when going to the beach or sunbathing. However, it looks like no one has anticipated the possibility of getting second-degree sunburns in the most unsuspecting places because two brothers have been hospital while playing in the park during day care.
CNN reports that Shaunna Broadway, mother of Connor and Trae, has dropped off her children at the Happiness is a Learning Center last Friday for their usual day care schedule. When she came back to pick them up in the afternoon, the children have been crying and complaining of pain. The mother has found out that the children spent the day at a water park and apparently, the day care staff has no available sunscreen for the kids.
The children have then been brought to the hospital where they have been diagnosed with second-degree burns. Connor will have to remain in the hospital for his 72-hour wrap treatment because his burns have reached the third degree levels.
Daily Mail UK adds that Broadway has rushed her kids to Craig General Hospital but has been told at 2 a.m. last Monday that the kids need to be flown immediately to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Galveston, Texas due to their extreme burn conditions. Wayne Broadway, the children’s grandfather, says that the burnt skin have now been removed and the kids are doing much better. But skin grafts have also been discussed as a possibility and the hospital expects the kids to be admitted for up to five days.
Broadway wants the day care to take responsibility for the injuries her kids have sustained and has filed for a police report last Sunday. She said the day care has no excuse for not using sunscreen especially if they plan to take the kids on a splash park in the middle of a hot day. She said she is a single mother who works from Monday to Friday, that is why she needed the day care to take care of his sons.
The state Department of Human Services are now investigating Happiness is a Learning Center. The owner of the day care has voluntarily closed their doors and ceased operations during the investigation, writes NBC News. Debra Martin, spokeswoman of the agency, said the day care has no records of violations, and previous incidents have not been life-threatening.
