The "Game of Thrones" season 6 production has been kept under tight wraps, and the cast is keeping mum about any developments despite rampant rumors that Jon Snow will be back and speculations surround Emilia Clarke's "it's going to be mental" comments. Today, news about a huge TV actor joining the cast has been announced but, to the dismay of the fans, no other details have been provided.

Vanity Fair has confirmed that "Deadwood" British actor Ian McShane is in for the sixth season of the epic TV series. McShane, who has won a Golden Globe for playing Al Swearengen in the gone-too-soon HBO western drama, is rumored to be playing a character to rival Littlefinger when it comes to under-the-table negotiations and schemes.

The sixth installment of the series will be showing a storyline that even the novels written by George R.R. Martin have not yet tackled, Entertainment Weekly adds. Although HBO is giving away no other details regarding the series, which is a first as the company usually makes several casting announcements during the filming of new episodes, sources of the magazine state that the character that McShane will be playing has a key role as to how the story will unfold.

If importance will be the basis, there are several characters that the British actor may play. The Independent shares that he can be Euron Greyjoy, the eldest of the youngest siblings of Lord Balon Greyjoy or Randyll Tarly, Sam's father. In the novels, the Greyjoys are one of the key characters, and McShane's entrance can be the turning point in the series. It can also be the reason why HBO has decided to make the series to eight seasons. As for Randyll, he has been neglected too long in the series and his character in the novels has seen himself as a council for Kevan Lannister, after he has shown support for the Lannister despite being Renyl Tyrell's banner-man. His character is what fans are really hoping to see.

Furthermore, Watchers on The Wall, a Game of Thrones community for fans, have speculated back in May that Sam's father will be seen soon, after a previous casting post has perfectly described the character: aged 50s to 60s, one of the greatest soldiers in Westeros, has martial arts knowledge and can be centrally involved for a protagonist's storyline.

Whoever the actor plays, it will be undoubtedly a perfect fit because he has proven to HBO followers how essential his character has been in Deadwood, where he played the villain against Timothy Olyphant's Sheriff Seth Bullock. Due to his flawless skills, fans are considering him as a perfect casting choice to add more darkness and murder to the series.

"The Game of Thrones" Season 6 is expected to return to HBO next spring.
