"Downton Abbey" season 6, the final installment of the series, will air on Jan. 3, 2016, and like bad break-ups, fans can't still get over the fact that it will be the last time they'll see Lady Mary and the rest of the characters in the small screen . However, the rumor mill is buzzing with excitement as news of "furthering the series" surfaced when showrunner Julian Fellowes hints about a "Downton" movie.
The cast of "Downton Abbey" has graced the Television Critics Association's summer meeting in Beverly Hills for the last time, and it has been obvious that some reporters can't just let go, reports Philly.
Gareth Neame, producer of the series, shared that fans and the media has been begging him to do a movie, and the production team is not ruling out the possibility. He said it will be a wonderful idea to continue the story of the characters on the big screen but as of the moment, there are no script or concrete plan in the making.
Entertainment Weekly writes that there are only two weeks of filming left, with some actors already finished with their scenes and the entire production done at Highclere Castle.
Laura Carmichael, the actress who plays Lady Edith, shared that it has been a bittersweet experience for everyone involved, stating that everyone felt "Downton Abbey" has been a part of their lives that it makes saying goodbye even harder.
Fellowes shared Neame's sentiments when he held out a future movie for the series. He said that if it happens, the end of the 1920s could be the setting for it. He believed that if the series has extended to a season 7 or 8, it would have been the direction the story will go.
Vanity Fair adds that the cast has been more forthcoming about this season's plot details, possibly as it also means an ending of an era. Hugh Bonneville has even surprised the media when he revealed a pivotal scene in the final season that can change the story of his character, Lord Grantham.
Bonneville shared that his character will soon realize how downsizing affects the future of what he dearly tries to save, as he sees how a once great estate starts to fragments. This will lead Lord Grantham to downsize the staff and to say, "Who has an underbutler these days?"
Everyone promises that the fans will enjoy a good cry, and the waterworks may be starting for the cast and crew as they end this August.
