'Jurassic World 2' Release Date, Cast, & Plot: Sequel Will Leave Isla Nublar, Teases Colin Trevorrow

With "Jurassic World" beating out "The Avengers" as the third highest Grosing flim of all time, there is no surprise that Universal Studios has announced a sequel to the film.
As the news spreads about "Jurassic World 2," fans of the franchise are wondering if they will be watching a film set on Isla Nublar yet again. Colin Trevorrow, however, has revealed that the second installment of "Jurassic World" will explore other possible themes in the Jurassic universe.
Trevorrow expressed that while he is still involved with the Jurassic franchise, he would like to "set the table" for potential future movies that do no take place in one location or explore the same themes.
"...I know that Stephen definitely wants to make several of these movies, and I want to do my job in setting the table for something that can be rich and thoughtful and interesting," said Trevorrow during a interview with Wired.
He explained that the sequel and following installments, if ever, will not solely focus on dinosaurs chasing people on the famous dinosaur island, commenting, "That'll get old real fast."
Trevorrow will not be directing the sequel, but will be producing and cowriting the script for the movie with Derek Connolly, reports Cinema Blend. Seeing that he is cowriting the script, most of his ideas will probably make into "Jurassic World 2."
He touched upon certain ideas running through his mind, which could possibly make it into the sequel, or maybe even the third or fourth installment of the franchise.
According to Ecumenical News, Trevorrow has been playing with the idea that other companies gain access to the technology for recreating dinosaurs. This idea was first seen in "Jurassic Park," when Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) tried to steal some dinosaur embryos.
It was also eluded to at the end of "Jurassic World," but has never actually been fully conceptualized. InGen has always been the only company to hold the techonology for recreating dinosaurs.
Another idea Trevorrow shared is the different possible uses for dinosaurs, other than entertainment. For instance, the first movie explores the idea that dinosaurs can be used as live weapons with Chris Pratt's character.
Thinking along the lines of Trevorrow, if other companies could re-produce dinosaurs, they could market the ancient species as something else, like weapons.
Of course, if this is the direction Trevorrow is planning to take for the sequel, it would undoubtedly involve organizations and groups outside of Isla Nublar.
In addtion to weaponization and open sources, Trevorrow would also like to see how dinosaurs and humans react to each other, especially since dinosaurs used to be the dominant species in the world.
"Jurassic World 2" is set to release on June 22, 2018. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard have already signed on for the sequel, reprising their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, respectively.
