Pitbull's appearance was announced by Fox on Aug. 6 at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Los Angeles, reports Variety. The singer/rapper will be portraying himself, explains TV Guide.

Meanwhile, Carey is set to appear on several episodes playing a character that is yet to be announced. The show's director, Lee Daniels, announced Carey's new acting role before the ceremony for her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, reports NY Daily News.
"Watch her on 'Empire,' you guys. She's coming on Empire," Danels screamed at the thousands of fans who attended the ceremony.
Daniels and Carey have teamed up before in three films: "Tennessee, "The Butler," and "Precious", states Variety. While Carey has not received total support as an actor, she has struck gold in certain roles under Daniels guidance. In particular, Carey's performances in "Tennessee" and "Precious" received good reviews.
Daniels has total confidence in Carey as an actor, which is probably why they work so well together. "She has certaintly proven herself, good lord. Repeatedly. I'm very excited to see where she goes on 'Empire.'" commented Daniels.
He goes on to say: "She's very underestimated as an actor. Directed properly, she's a tour de force. A lot of the time, she can be intimidating because she's a strong-willed woman. She needs a strong director who grasps her and they they can lean on each other. I think that directors that are brave will see that."
Season 2 of "Empire" will premiere on September 23, 2015, reports Contact Music. Other notable names are expected to make an appearance in the upcoming season of the show including: Chris Rock, Kelly Rowland, Marisa Tomei, and Ludacris.
