Morgan Freeman mourns granddaughter's death

Morgan Freeman is mourning over his granddaughter Edena Hines, who was fatally stabbed by her boyfriend in New York City on Sunday.

Hines was rushed to Harlem Hospital but was later pronounced dead upon arrival after she was found bloodied in front of her apartment on West 162nd Street. The cause of death was multiple stab wounds to the chest.

"The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer," Freeman told USA Today through his representative Stan Rosenfield. "Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."

According to a report by Mashable, a 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is believed to be Hines' boyfriend per the police. 

The Guardian reports that the name of the man is Lamar Davenport and he was charged with second-degree murder. Jezebel reports that Davenport is to undergo a psychiatric evaluation given the bizarre nature of how he attacked his girlfriend. According to Raw Story, Davenport was witnessed to be attacking Hines while yelling about "devils."

Hines is Freeman's step-granddaughter from his first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw. According to her website, Hines studied in New York University and was a writer and creator.

Condolences and support were sent to Freeman from his fans all over the world.

Hines was an avid blogger as could be seen in her website. Her last entry "Stillness in Silence" attributed to three words that people use to describe her, "Energetic. Loud. Animated."

"I thought I was the group cheerleader, giving them what they needed to keep going cause I was blessed with exuberant amounts of energy, but, I was more exhausted when it counted," Hines wrote on her blog.

"If your mouth is always moving then your ears are not listening. There is no ability for you to listen while talking and if you are not receiving anything from the person you're talking to then you're actually just monologuing to an audience that will begin to resent you," she wrote.

"I want to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love and support my family has received regarding the tragic and senseless passing of my granddaughter Edena Hines. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. -M," Freeman wrote on his Facebook page to thank his fans in return.
