With the surprising global success of Tesla quickly dominating the electronic car market, big luxury car brands are now seriously taking into consideration joining the foray to pose a threat to the company's latest Model X.

One of the eager challengers is Audi and apparently, its weapon of choice will be in the form of the Q6 e-tron, which is set to be unveiled in September at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Auto Car UK reports that based on the official sketches of the e-tron quattro concept automobile, its dimensions will more than likely come in between current models Q5 and Q7. Audi claims the quattro concept will help provide the brand's first series of electronic cars and will have a zero-emission driving concept, which will make the driver enjoy the experience.

Audi has initially teased the concept of going electronic earlier this year during its annual accounts conference under the codename C-BEV. It is rumored to rival Tesla's Model X based on the latest driving concept the engineers in the company has developed and perfected. Speculations fly that the e-tron will have a Range Rover ride quality with the same underpinnings as the Q7, although there are no confirmation yet if it will have the same steel springs or if it's going to be an air spring setup.

The new Audi Q6 SUV is said to have a sporty, sleeker look with a next generation modular longitudinal (MBL) design, and will focus more on aerodynamics, roomy interior and an all-wheel-drive, writes Automobile Mag. Keen to be the model of performance, the Audi Q6's e-tron quattro will most probably have 500bph and 516lb ft. The drive system will be based on the Audi R8 e-tron sports car but with Matrix OLED taillights, touchscreen displays, futuristic interior and the coveted three e-motors.

Furthermore, the Audi Q6 SUV will be able to travel for more than 310 miles on one charge using its three electric motors, where one will be situated at the front axle and the rest will be at the rear for an all-wheel drive concept. Battery will be made from lithium-ion which will be located in the middle, positioned perfectly for balance and gravity.

Slash Gear reports that Audi's partnership with LG and Samsung for the technology and battery the company will use for its upcoming models may have done a good deal for the car company. This partnership will definitely boost the power and strengthen the underlying structure of Audi's future cars. The e-tron quattro concept will also provide Audi the lowest coefficient of drag value for any SUV, which is 0.25.

The Audi Q6 SUV is slated to be released in 2018.
