Michael Myers is back in the upcoming movie "Halloween Returns." According to iHorror, Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton are currently working on the script for the film, which Dunstan will direct.
So far, the storyline features two new Haddonfield youngsters, whose families have both been affected by Myers.
The two teens visit Myers on his execution day. However, Myers escapes and ends up hunting the two kids instead.
Dunstan revealed in a lengthy interview featured in "The Myers Fan 25" YouTube channel that "Halloween Returns" will get back to the grass roots of the Michael Myers franchise.
The film will take place in the events after "Halloween 2." It will not recognize any of the movies released after "Halloween 2." For the scripts, Dunstan and Melton analyzed and studied the screenplay of the original "Halloween" movie, reports Bloody Disgusting.
The two read John Carpenter's draft of the screenplay and even went as far as timing it with the movie. "Line for line it keeps the same clock as watching the move, so if you're reading the pages, it's almost like a shot list," said Dunstan about the original screenplay.
Both Dunstan and Melton are planning on keeping the same formula of subtlety and suspense seen in past "Halloween" films.
Another aspect of the horror franchise Dunstan would like to keep the same is Myers' mask. During the interview, Dunstan said he would like to reveal the mask the same way an aged Harrison Ford and Chewie were revealed in the trailer of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," states Dread Central.
It would seem that Dunstan is going for a nostalgic feel for the film. He will be keeping the Myer's mask in "Halloween Returns" as close to the one seen in Carpenter's 1978 original film.
Speaking of the mask, several potential Michael Myers have gone through motion tests already for the film, said Dunstan.
As for the other characters in the film, Dunstan is interested in Gillian Jacobs, who is well-known for her role at Britta in the show, "Community."
"I really like this actress Gillian Jacobs. She's known for all this comedy on 'Community,' and yet I didn't know her from 'Community' first, I knew her from a movie called 'Gardens of the Night,' which is one of the most wrenching dramas, and she's excellent," commented the director.
"I thought, 'I wonder if this great performer would do that again, would like to go there.' and I think so."
