Season 11 of "Supernatural" will be welcoming back some old friends and may even explore God's character more, which was previously played by Rob Benedict as Chuck back in Season 5.
According to E! Online, the upcoming season of "Supernatural" will set the Winchester brothers against a massive entity even older than God, known as The Darkness.
Jeremy Carver gave fans a few details on The Darkness at the latest Comic-Con event, reports The Hollywood Reporter. "I think it's a special Big Bad we have this year. It's a pre-biblical story that's never been told. I think it's going to be a fun, epic feel," Carver teased.
IB Times explains that The Darkness was around even before God. In order to create the world, God had to defeat The Darkness first, with the help of his army of angels. Since God could not defeat Darkness alone, IB Times believes that the Big Bad actually has the power to kill God.
Since Darkness is so strong and seemingly invincible, the Winchester brothers will need to come reunite to defeat it. Jared Padaleki and Jensen Ackles are both excited to have the brothers back together. "It's been a while since we've seen Sam and Dean in a good place," said Padalecki. "And this year they're going to be facing The Darnkess together head-on, and I think the fans are really going to love that."
Agreeing with his co-star, Ackles adds, "It's fun for us to get to play the lighter side of their brotherly relationship after playing it so dark for a while."
However, Sam and Dean will not be able to defeat Darkness on their own. In fact, Carver has hinted that there will be a couple fan-favorites that will be returning for Season 11.
One age old enemy turned friend that will be returning is Crowley. Of course Castiel, the Winchester's angel buddy, will also be returning this season.
Unfortunately, Castiel is still under the spell of Rowena. Even if the angel were not bewitched, however, he would not be able to tell the Winchester brothers anything about The Darkness, since it is an entity before his time. Crowley will be of little help as well in the information department.
The only person who knows The Darkness enough is God, which is probably why both Dean and Sam can be seen actually asking God for help and guidance in the trailer seen below.
The trailer foretells of a bloody season for Sam, Dean, and their allies. God may be their only hope this time, but one question remains: will God answer his children's call for help?
