A new species of bacteria that can cause Lyme disease have been found recently by researchers. This is the second species discovered to transmit the debilitating illness across North America.
Lyme disease is usually transmitted through a bite of an infected blacklegged tick, but CDC has found a new culprit that causes the disease.
The geographic expansion of the ticks can be seen dramatically in the large areas of the U.S. like Vermont, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and New York. Cases of Lyme disease, hence, have increased since 1998.
