NASA's tumblr page announced on December 21st, 2016, Chief scientist Dr.Ellen Stofan will be stepping down from her post after more than 3 years of service. As science advisor to NASA administrator Charlie Bolden, she worked on a number of projects and oversaw the agency's science portfolio. There has been no announcement regarding who would fill in her shoes.
