Celebrity Health & Fitness reported that Macpherson maintains her bikini body with a low-carb and alkaline diet. She practices yoga as her daily workout and avoids red meat, caffeine, wheat and alcohol to keep her skin radiant and her body lean.
The alkaline diet that Macpherson follows includes fresh green vegetables, fruit, beans, lentils, spices, seeds and nuts. The theory is that eating a diet high in alkaline-producing food minimized inflammation by reducing acid build up. The diet recommends to avoid sugar, coffee, alcohol, dairy and processed foods, Examiner reported.
The "The Mirror Has Two Faces" star revealed that the alkaline diet worked for her. "I noticed changes in just two weeks," she said. "I had more vitality, my skin wasn't dry, I stopped craving sugar, my mood stabilized, everything became more balanced. A welcome byproduct was losing weight around my middle."
The Australian model also explained that an alkaline body and a pH-neutral body is a healthier body. "Many people believe an alkaline diet combats disease, encourages cellular renewal and, therefore, is anti-aging. When all of our 11 body systems are nourished well and detoxifying properly, they are in their optimal state," Macpherson said.
Macpherson also makes sure that her meals are high-protein and low-carb. Her meal usually features plenty of vegetables like kale or spinach. As for her protein sources, she prefers eggs and fish. She also snacks on coconuts, almond butter and dark chocolate.
"The Body" supermodel also makes sure the she gets plenty of sleep. Aside from proper diet and enough sleep, she takes the time to work out.
"I schedule my daily workouts for 9 a.m. after the school run," said the mom of two. "I'll do a different sport every day if I can. I mix it up, but no matter what, I do 45 minutes of something a day."
She also loves outdoor activities like surfing, swimming, water skiing, hiking or running for about 50 minutes a day. For indoor workouts, she does yoga, Pilates and strength training.
"'Beauty at every age' is such a boring cliché, but beauty is not just reserved for youth," Macpherson said expressing her comfort in counting her years. "I didn't feel any kind of milestone pressure turning 50, perhaps because I've been preparing for this stage of my life for a long time."
