Kelly Ripa anti-aging diet & fitness secrets: 45-year-old actress credits vegan-based alkaline diet for her weight loss success

You know those blessed individuals who are able to maintain a bikini-ready body year long without having to resort into any form of diet or kill themselves like gym rats and most fitness junkies do, well, Kelly Ripa is not one of them. But, at 45 years of age, the American actress and talk show host would put many women half her age to shame with her slim figure.
Ripa's secret is her anti-ageing vegan-based alkaline diet and everyday fitness routine.
The theory behind alkaline diet is the notion that alkaline-producing foods reduce the risk of inflammation by preventing acid buildup in our bodies, according to The Examiner. This inflammation can lead to aging and weight gain. Alkaline diet recommends eating fresh green vegetables, fruits, beans, lentils, spices, seeds and nuts, while avoiding sugar, coffee, alcohol, processed foods and dairy.
"The alkaline diet is primarily a vegan diet, but I like cream in my coffee," she told People. "I like to have a glass of wine, so I don't adhere to it strictly, but when I do a cleanse, it will be 7 days, and then I go back to my normal life. But my normal life is not that different than the alkaline cleanse."
"I swear, I think it's responsible for me not being in pain," the mother-of-three added.
Ripa also make it a point to do workout every single day. She varies her exercise with running once a week, taking cardio dance classes four days a week, and doing SoulCycle twice a week.
"There are a lot of people that don't have to work out, and I am so happy for them, but I have to work out for my body type," she said. "It's part of my routine. It's part of my ritual. It doesn't just make me look better, but it makes me emotionally feel better."
The actress also mentioned that with her Alkaline Diet, she does not have to resort to crash diet or starving herself because what sets the diet apart from the others is that there is no severe calorie restriction so she was able to eat much more during this form of cleansing.
Other celebrities who are into Alkaline diet include Victoria Beckham, Elle Macpherson, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jennifer Aniston, according to Celebrity health and fitness.
On the other hand, a news article from Health.com also cautioned that the research on the efficacy of the Alkaline diet is still limited. And, it may even be unnecessary to undergo one because our bodies are inherently designed to maintain pH balance. It also noted that acidic food aren't necessarily bad like those considered in the acid-forming category but are naturally healthy such as cranberries, pomegranates, chickpeas, walnuts, and tea.
